   WELCOME HOME STEVE

August 13, 1955

Even the rain didn't keep family, friends, and well-wishers from coming out to Akron-Canton and Akron Municipal Airports to meet the plane to greet me and welcome me home from that hellhole known as Red China.  What a thrill it was to see all of them and to be home again!!!

But Hart, Weese, and Van Voorhis didn't make it home!!!  These unfortunate souls, along with thousands more of our fellow Americans who are missing-in-action and are prisoners-of war, were betrayed, left behind, and abandoned; now they are all but forgotten!!!  It appears that our brave young men in our armed forces are expendable, especially if they fall into enemy hands.  Our attitude seems to be: as long as we can enjoy our own precious freedoms, no matter at whose expense, "Tough luck, buddy, you're on your own now!!!"

Remember, great nations fall because of apathy, greed, and ignorance.
